Easy Strawberry-Blueberry Tart

This is my go-to dessert when I need to make something impressive in a pinch – usually when I need to take something to someone’s house, want to look fancy, but have no time to make it. All you need is frozen-aisle puff pastry and some berries. Top off with sugar and let the oven bring out the sweetness of the berries to create an impressive tart in no time.

Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen puff pastry sheet (thawed)
  • 1 1/2 cups of strawberries (sliced widthwise)
  • 1/4 cup of blueberries
  • 1  teaspoon sugar
  • 1 egg yolk, whipped
  • powdered sugar (optional)

Recipe:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a baking sheet with melted butter and gently unwrap and place the puff pastry sheet on the baking sheet. Arrange the strawberry slices in rows lengthwise down the pastry. Leave 1/2 inch of the crust along the edges exposed. Place the blueberries haphazardly in between the rows of strawberries. Dust the strawberries and the blueberries with the sugar. Brush the edges of the tart with the egg yolk so the edges brown nicely. in the oven. Place in the oven on the middle rack and bake for 20 minutes (or a little longer if the edges are not yet browned, but continue to monitor so it doesn’t burn). Remove from oven. To make it look extra pretty, you can dust the tart with powdered sugar if you have it- but only do this right before serving (otherwise it can make the tart a little watery if the powdered sugar sits for too long).
